Architectural Review Committee
Mark Unger
The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) is responsible to maintain design consistency throughout Somerset Lake by applying the Architectural Control Criteria. Keeping our subdivision beautifully maintained also helps maintain our property values. Any changes to the exterior of a home or yard require an ARC request which is found here. The ARC criteria is reviewed and revised from time to time at the discretion of the Board of Directors. The ARC derives its authority from the Board of Directors as provided for in the bylaws: ARTICLE VI, Use Restrictions and Rules, Section 10. Architectural Standards

Landscape Committee
Brenda Wood
When I visited Trevah (my predecessor) at Somerset, I knew I wanted to live here, too. And so I moved to Somerset in 2018 after retiring from a very rewarding career of 36 years as an Intelligence Officer with the Defense Intelligence Agency. Most residents have met my friend Buddy; he has voluntarily helped the Somerset Community with drainage, clearing brush, and filling in muskrat tunnels. I love to walk, ride my bike, and tend my roses.
There is no other subdivision as beautiful and serene as Somerset and Trevah’s leadership has a lot to do with that. She and her devoted Landscape Committee have established the landscaping beautifully and my goal is to continue their stellar work by maintaining the beauty they created, with the help of our dedicated committee of caring and devoted residents like you.
And we have bushels of fun doing it…come join us!!

Social Committee
Nancy Herthum
I was the first resident in the second phase of the Somerset Lake development. I purchased my lot in October of 2005, and moved in on 28 June 2006 from the Washington DC area.
I previously served on the HOA Board for seven consecutive years holding every position except for Treasurer and now I’m honored to help coordinate some fun events and activities for us. We have historically had Block Parties in the spring and the fall as well as a Christmas Party, but I would like to look at other additional ways to gather and socialize to bring us closer as a community.
Please join me on the committee and bring your ideas!

Community Watch Committee
Welcome Committee
Bob Godwin
Somerset uses Community Neighborhood Watch (CW) to deter crime, build stronger relationships with law enforcement and allow residents to feel more safe. It relies on all of us, both the CW team and residents as well, to be attentive to suspicious activities and report them to Huntsville Police at 256-722-7100.
Successful crime prevention goes beyond Community Watch. It’s dependent on residents knowing their neighbors; what is normal and what is not. Getting to know our neighbors and watching out for each another improves the quality of life here in Somerset and enables us to more comfortably and effectively help each other during difficult times.
An important goal at HOA meetings and social events is to facilitate this by providing opportunities to get to know one another and foster neighborly relationships. We don’t all have to be friends. But we’re neighbors whether we like it or not and you never know when you might need them.
Somerset CW patrols both at night while you’re sleeping and during the day when some are home alone or at work. Thank you CW Committee for those extra pairs of eyes and ears watching over us!
