Architectural Review Committee

Mark Unger

The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) is responsible to maintain design consistency throughout Somerset Lake by applying the Architectural Control Criteria. Keeping our subdivision beautifully maintained also helps maintain our property values.  Any changes to the exterior of a home or yard require an ARC request which is found here.  The ARC criteria is reviewed and revised from time to time at the discretion of the Board of Directors. The ARC derives its authority from the Board of Directors as provided for in the bylaws:  ARTICLE VI, Use Restrictions and Rules, Section 10. Architectural Standards

Any question about why we have ARC requests?

Landscape Committee

Trevah Oliver

I moved to Somerset Lake in 2010 and retired later that year. Soon after, I took the Master Gardener Course offered by the Madison County Extension Service, a desire of mine for many years. I love that I can put this knowledge to good use here in our Community as I work to keep our neighborhood a place we can all be proud to call home.

I provide oversight of lawn care services for the Board, act as Residents’ Liaison to our landscaping contractor and answer residents’ questions about their individual landscape concerns. With the help of indispensable volunteers, we also maintain Common Ground planting areas including a holiday lighting display for a festive welcome at our Community entrance. Come join us and lend a hand, we always have a lot of fun.

Somerset Lake wins the prestigious Beautification Award from the City of Huntsville every year and it’s all due to the hard work and dedication of the Landscape Committee.

Social Committee

Lynn Bell (& Gary)

If you were to look up the definition of “great neighbors and communities” in the dictionary (or Google it these days), the very first thing you’d see would be “Somerset Lake”. My husband Gary (Board Vice President) and I look forward to continue to get to know all of our Somerset families and keep it the neighborly place I fell in love with by planning fun social events to bring us all together. When we are out & about, please stop and say hello to us or our dog Bandit (he’s the hairy one in the picture).

Community Watch Committee
Welcome Committee

Bob Godwin

Somerset uses Community Neighborhood Watch (CW) to deter crime, build stronger relationships with law enforcement and allow residents to feel more safe. It relies on all of us, both the CW team and residents as well, to be attentive to suspicious activities and report them to Huntsville Police at 256-722-7100.

Successful crime prevention goes beyond Community Watch. It’s dependent on residents knowing their neighbors; what is normal and what is not. Getting to know our neighbors and watching out for each another improves the quality of life here in Somerset and enables us to more comfortably and effectively help each other during difficult times.

An important goal at HOA meetings and social events is to facilitate this by providing opportunities to get to know one another and foster neighborly relationships. We don’t all have to be friends. But we’re neighbors whether we like it or not and you never know when you might need them.

Somerset CW patrols both at night while you’re sleeping and during the day when some are home alone or at work. Thank you CW Committee for those extra pairs of eyes and ears watching over us!
